I feel like this book didn’t quite have the same magic to me as the first three. As usual, Frost’s plot and writing are smooth as silk and the interactions between Cat and Bones sizzle the pages.
The lesson of “take janiene low blow” was used liberally, as the couple hurled every nasty insult they could at each other. How lame to be stuck with Justina for all eternity. Cat and Bo This fourth instalment of the Night Huntress series was a bit of a mixed bag.
She had help him when Bones was human, and Bones wanted to return the favor; to become a vampire, she accepted. Bones too, suffers from things in his past that impact Cat’s ability to trust which drives Bones nearly insane.
Vlad was also great in this one and ends up being someone Cat turns to for comfort. It must have been hard enough to knock me unconscious, too. That man does bad things to me. Her heart exists besides where Bones is concerned and she’s willing to listen and have a decent conversation instead of obnoxiously shrill over anyone trying to talk. This time they are not only tested by both outside sources, but also their inner turmoil.

Strangely, a few years ago, I read Vlad’s book and totally raked it over the coals in my review.

Some of Bones and Cat’s behaviour was infuriating and it felt like Frost had dipped into the well once too often with some of her story arcs. After she makes that decision, there’s a scene that reminded me a lot of Bella and Z and her ‘needing’ from JR Ward’s Lover Awakened — hawt! And why did Mencheres butt in? Sounds like a marriage to me; just swap family, sex, and money problems and your spouse leaving his shoes in the living room and dirty clothes on the floor for the marital strain of a merciless dream snatching vampire, and there you have it.

As a whole though, even with my complaining i DID like the book. I am so going to repeat myself….
She’s having visions of a vampire named Gregor who’s more powerful than Bones and has ties to her past that even Cat herself didn’t know about. Now I know why this series is so massively popular! Teaser Bones had an arm around my waist, locking me next to him.

And Rodney getting killed seriously ticks me off, I really liked him. But I wanted to handle everything myself.
Destined for an Early Grave (Night Huntress, book 4) by Jeaniene Frost
The last quarter of the book delivers a lot of sudden twists and revelations that mean big changes for the series going forward. I guess I either needed context, and this series gives it, or to get a lot more desensitized to vampire smut. Overall, this book is actually quite meh. View all 10 comments. I can’t get enough of these two and I’m ready and willing to follow the fork in their path destined by the book’s ending.
Bones feels hurt even though he knows the Cat has problems with letting others get too close to her. He is ah great friend to Cat. It seems to me that this book could have achieved its main objectives not going to spoil it – you’ll know what they are when it’s done without all the antagonism between Bones and Cat.
Dave gets killed by a vampire and at end of the book two, Rodney and Destjned makes him a ghoul. I had lots of fun reading this; like I said, it was dramatic and heavy, but it didn’t bring me down.
