One of the best things about this book is Sagan’s willingness to look at pseudo-science, crackpot ideas that are popular with the general public, and the writings of some truly eccentric people, and carefully explore the research possibilities their beliefs present.

In his delightfully down-to-earth style, he explores and explains a mind-boggling future of intelligent robots, extraterrestrial life and its consquences, and other provocative, fascinating quandries of the future that we want to see today.

There are no discussion topics on this book yet. This book, filled with the mysteries of the human brain, is particularly fascinating! For twelve years he was the editor-in-chief of Icarus, the leading professional journal devoted to planetary research. With some technical exceptions, the content of this book is very accessible. Read cosmos 5 stars, Contact 5 stars and Dragons of Eden 5 stars.

After this, part two continues with a couple good chapters, the first on theological arguments and second on science fiction. With a firm command of both science and humanity, Sagan explores a range of issues related to our existence.

Clearly, he had the same position as I hold – that of an agnostic – “To be certain of the existence of God and to be certain of the nonexistence of God seem to me to be the confident extremes in a subject so riddled with doubt and uncertainty as to inspire very little confidence indeed. The book gives a fascinating account of older cultures’ perceptions of the cosmos.

This book is fun to read and an educational masterpiece. Just a moment while we sign you in to your Goodreads account. From the number of reviews in the site, it appears that there are quite a few folks who had no issues with such a style but for me it was a jumbled mass. One person found this helpful.

IntellectBrainSpace sciencesPaul Broca. Some of his essays, especially the ones where he criticized the views of some of his fellow scientists, are skippable though.

Carl was in France and actually held Broca’s preserved brain in his hands at the Musee de Homme. Many topics of science and man’s acceptance of science shown. A suggestion for future readers would be just to skip the vivisection of Dr. Asteroid Sagan is named after him. Write a customer review.

Sagan is unparalleled at making the complicated clear and the obscure obvious, and being entertaining and engaging in the process.

After a couple of chapters I was left to wonder if Sagan ever meant this to be a book or whether the publishers cashed in on his popularity and swept in quite a few of his writings and hammered it into a shape that resembled a book. Many of the topics could of been really heavy,difficult subjects for the average layman.
