I feel like this book didn’t quite have the same magic to me as the first three. As usual, Frost’s plot and writing are smooth as silk and the interactions between Cat and Bones sizzle the pages.

The lesson of “take janiene low blow” was used liberally, as the couple hurled every nasty insult they could at each other. How lame to be stuck with Justina for all eternity. Cat and Bo This fourth instalment of the Night Huntress series was a bit of a mixed bag.

She had help him when Bones was human, and Bones wanted to return the favor; to become a vampire, she accepted. Bones too, suffers from things in his past that impact Cat’s ability to trust which drives Bones nearly insane.

Vlad was also great in this one and ends up being someone Cat turns to for comfort. It must have been hard enough to knock me unconscious, too. That man does bad things to me. Gregor tried to gain the trust of the fragile sixteen year old Cat, seduce her and marry her because he knew what Cat would be capable of in the years to come.

Strangely, a few years ago, I read Vlad’s book and totally raked it over the coals in my review.

It gave me a close look at the real Vlad and I loved what I seen. So if the reader is eawily offended or dislikes those items in a novel then I would steer clear. Learn more about Kindle MatchBook.

Some of Bones and Cat’s behaviour was infuriating and it felt like Frost had dipped into the well once too often with some of her story arcs. After she makes that decision, there’s a scene that reminded me a lot of Bella and Z and her ‘needing’ from JR Ward’s Lover Awakened — hawt! And why did Mencheres butt in? Sounds like a marriage to me; just swap family, sex, and money problems and your spouse leaving his shoes in the living room and dirty clothes on the floor for the marital strain of a merciless dream snatching vampire, and there you have it.

Destined for an Early Grave (Night Huntress, book 4) by Jeaniene Frost

The last quarter of the book delivers a lot of sudden twists and revelations that mean big changes for the series going forward. I guess I either needed context, and this series gives it, or to get a lot more desensitized to vampire smut. Overall, this book is actually quite meh. View all 10 comments. I can’t get enough of these two and I’m ready and willing to follow the fork in their path destined by the book’s ending.

Bones feels hurt even though he knows the Cat has problems with letting others get too close to her. He is ah great friend to Cat. It seems to me that this book could have achieved its main objectives not going to spoil it – you’ll know what they are when it’s done without all the antagonism between Bones and Cat.

Dave gets killed by a vampire and at end of the book two, Rodney and Destjned makes him a ghoul. I had lots of fun reading this; like I said, it was dramatic and heavy, but it didn’t bring me down.
